TRANSCRIPT:

Moustafa: Hello everyone and welcome back to Passion Sundays, the best way to end a week and start another. Our guest today is one of the most successful entrepreneurs, serial entrepreneurs in the region – Fadi Ghandour. Thank you very much for being with us today!
Fadi: A pleasure! Happy to be here!
Moustafa: I’m honored. It’s been a while since we’ve been trying to get together.
Fadi: Finally.
Moustafa: Finally. So we were talking before we started rolling about your passion for making a difference. I don’t wanna talk about the business, I wanna talk about that passion.
Fadi: Right. So, look, passion is everything in my view. If you don’t have passion, you don’t have love for what you do. So it’s the translation of, a translation of what you really love into actual impact. And that’s passion. I, I feel I’ve many missions in life and I feel blessed that I am capable of actually going out and doing them so… And, you know, it translates into that, if you want to call it – passion. It’s drive.
Moustafa: Ok.
Fadi: It’s feel that you can do. You feel the impact, the returns. You know, if you give passion, passion comes back and slaps you in the face and you get exhilarated. So, yeah, I mean look, in my view, it’s the ultimate differentiator. So talent can be equal in what it knows but it’s that passion that makes people a notch ahead.
Moustafa: I like that.
Fadi: Grit! You know – grit is it!
Moustafa: Yeah.
Fadi: You have the grit? Are you driven? And that’s what’s gonna get you to actually be an achiever if you want.
Moustafa: Well, I love all of that and it’s beautiful when it’s said from a high place of success. But the question is how do you find that passion consistently when you’re all-low?
Fadi: Because I have fun in what I do. So you know, you won’t see me passionate about things that I don’t like. So if you see passion, I mean, coming out, you must know that I am in love.
Moustafa: Ok.
Fadi: With what I’m doing. I’m feeling the impact. I’m making a difference. And if I’m engaged in anything I’m passionate about, if I’m sitting with people who are not as passionate and engaging I’m moving on. I’m gonna go somewhere else and I’m gonna be disrupting.
Moustafa: You have the luxury to say this today. But let’s talk about the Fadi that started this life.
Fadi: Yeah but the Fadi that started this life, if I didn’t have that drive. If, you know – who would create a business that’s gonna compete with DHL, really? I mean, what craziness is that? And that’s many things. At the bottom of that is eventually discovering that you have that passion. You don’t know that you have it. You are not born necessarily with passion. You get to wear it. You discover it. If you’re an explorer, if you’re an entrepreneur, you’re always trying things and then you stumble on something that you love. And this opens this incredible, deep well of resources in you that gets translated into passion. My early days were rough, were tough. Look, building a business in the Arab world that’s going to compete with giants and facing regulators that were tough… If you are not going to be a stubborn, tenacious that is going to take a lot of slaps, a lot of punches and you rebound with passion. And say ‘I’m not giving up!’ and it’s ultimately what grit is all about. I’m not gonna give up. I’m gonna keep at it until it happens.
Moustafa: Fadi, this is the best way that I could have concluded this interview! So let’s keep the grit, keep the passion going.
Fadi: Thank you so much!
Moustafa: Thank you very much!
Moustafa and Fadi: Passion!
Moustafa: What do you think? I would really love to know your opinion. So if you found this episode as useful as I did, leave your comments on the blog below and do share it with your friends.
