Famed management consultant and author Peter Drucker once said, “The best way to predict your future is to create it.” I absolutely agree with this. But I also know the reality that it takes work to heal, alchemise all you’ve been through and create something out of it that allows you to move successfully into your future.
If you’ve followed the last seven blogs and done the work, I’m proud of you! You are serious about moving forward – and not dragging the worst of your past into the best of your future. Now let’s take the important next step…
Turn your lessons into wisdom
Let’s take a pause for some reflection. Albert Einstein once defined insanity as “doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.” Even if you’ve released painful emotions, no learning can happen without deep enough reflection to ensure you avoid those mistakes again. Take out a pen and paper. Clear yourself some time and ask yourself the following questions.
- How has your life gone so far?
- What were your plans, dreams, and goals?
- What went right?
- What went wrong?
- What did you learn?
- What do you need to change, that is in your control, to get a better outcome?
Even if it seems that everything in your life has gone wrong, the reality is that many things have gone right. We don't have to set the bar too high at the beginning. It could simply be that you're still alive and able to pick up this book so you can learn and begin to heal yourself today. Trust me when I say that many things have worked for you in your life.
Don't victimise yourself. Instead, think about how you can make those things better moving forward. What have you learned?
What is your story now?
In the beginning of your healing journey with Slingshot, you wrote your story. Since then, you’ve (hopefully) learned to honour your struggles, accept and love yourself, forgive people, and even adopt a different perspective on past or present events. This is massive! And you’ve just finished the healing part of slingshot. You haven’t even moved into the mindset mastery section.
So I want to ask you – what is your story now. Take some time to write it down. Who are you? What have you learned and gained from the struggles you now honour?
I promise you; this story is going to be changed if you've done the exercises fully and honestly. As of today, you will feel differently about your life. Before, you might have written, "I'm a victim." Now, your story has transformed, you might write "My life is an adventure and I've learned to be stronger than other people, because of the challenges that I've been through. This has made me more powerful, and I'm more empowered with my life." It's a totally different narrative.
Although some of the memories in your mind might be the same, it's the angle from which you're looking at them that changes the story.
So, how does it feel going through the journey, ending where you started but with a different perspective? Wonderful, right?
I hope you were able to clean out your inner clutter, let go of all the emotional baggage, and learn from your struggles. If you don’t feel like you have fully unloaded, then hey – the blogs are there, and they are free! Go through it again. Do the exercises again until you feel that sense of readiness.
But if you have reached a point where you are ready to completely let go, learn and move towards a brighter future – then lets slingshot.
Remember – you are a master of your destiny not a victim of your history. You have courage, humility, and discipline, and you are ready for the next stage.
Yours for the journey
